Association
The MVUB is organized as an association in a legal sense. The general assembly, to which all MVUB members are invited, is its highest decision-making body.

Review of the 2026 Spring Semester
Networking
During the 2026 spring semester, the MVUB organised 14 events. The programme for personal and professional development was highly diverse. This included the MVUB writing retreat in Münsingen, a CV check workshop and a photo shoot. In addition, there were informative MVUB Lunchtalks on topics such as AI and cultural sensitivity. New members of the academic staff connected at the Doc and Postdoc Event, while the MVUB Pub Quiz provided a fun and sociable networking opportunity.
A real highlight was the first MVUB Pub Quiz: in the courtyard pavilion, members enjoyed a relaxed atmosphere of quizzing, laughing and networking. Due to its success, the quiz will be returning for another round in the autumn semester! Maintaining direct contact with you was also important to us. Through “MVUB on Tour”, we visited university cafeterias on three occasions to meet our members and engage in conversation. In addition, we maintained regular contact with our collective members and invited all members to the annual General Assembly. Thank you very much for your participation and commitment – we look forward to many more events together!
Representation
At the semi-annual meeting between the MVUB board delegation and the Executive Board of the University of Bern, particular attention was given to the issue of one-year contracts for doctoral candidates. The MVUB continues to advocate for fair and sustainable working conditions. In addition, the MVUB board delegations held discussions with the University of Bern’s Ombuds Office, with the Secretary General Dr Andrea Hungerbühler, who has been in office since 1 April 2026, and with the Vice-Rector Teaching, Prof. Dr Fritz Sager. In the 22 standing committees of the University of Bern, a total of 67 MVUB committee delegates represent the concerns and interests of the intermediate staff.
Support
Since the beginning of the year, the MVUB’s triage service has supported around 40 members of the intermediate staff and assisted them in finding the right counselling service. Compared to the previous year, there has been a significant increase in enquiries (2025: 50 cases in total). This counselling service therefore remains an important and highly sought-after offering from the MVUB.
