It’s a PhD-thing – You wouldn’t understand
The Digital Discussion Series for Doctoral Candidates
In the discussion series "It’s a PhD thing – You wouldn’t understand", we talk about often overlooked aspects of doing a PhD—those parts of the journey for which there are no clear contact persons, but which can be crucial for success, mental health, and career planning.
Four times per semester, you’ll meet online with other doctoral candidates from all faculties for an open exchange on topics like mental health during the PhD, the challenges of expressing political opinions in academia, conflict-ridden supervision situations (e.g., being “ghosted” by your supervisor), or navigating university culture and its implicit expectations.
Each session starts with a short input from advanced PhD students or alumni, followed by a moderated group discussion where you can share your experiences, ask questions, or simply listen in. Participation is voluntary, interdisciplinary, bilingual (DE, EN) and requires no preparation.
No registration needed. Just log in, listen, and join the conversation.
